My sweet MIL gave me a stack of books to read a few months back. One of my favorites was Papa’s Wife, a delightful little book. There’s a whole series of these books based upon the life of the author Thyra Ferre Bjorn, a Swedish native whose father was pastor of the local church in their village. This week I finished the sequel, Papa’s Daughter.
I had read a couple of chapters before I noticed the inscription on the inside of the tattered cover written by the hand of a little third grade boy. As it turns out, Mr. C gave these books to his mom on Mother’s Day in 1982. When I showed him the inscription, he said that he didn’t even remember the books. I thought it was neat that Bookworm and I are enjoying them 25 years later.

This week for Kelli’s Show and Tell I wanted to share a neat discovery I made a few days ago.

What a treasure the books are! And don’t you love seeing your husband’s childish handwritten note? What fun!
How neat that your husband gave them to her and now you have something from his childhood.
I am a book lover but have never heard of these…will have to see if I can find them.
Have a blessed weekend.

I’ve heard this series is delightful. I’ve never read them. How special that your husband had actually given them to her.

That is wonderful. I just finished reading both of those and have several others of hers to read.
I’ve never heard of this author…at first glance I thought it might be a Grace Livingston Hill…I used to read her books a long time ago…
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
🙂
Mrs. U., I’ve read the books and one thing stands out in my memory about Papa’s Wife was when she was driving the car when he was away and she ended up in the pond. Her response to him was that ‘I’m washing the car!” Quick thinking woman…..
Thanks for visiting with me and commenting on my little church. Please come again….Betty
AAWW so sweet! His hand writing looks pretty neat for a third grade boy! I love the story behind this show and tell!
I see that you have Patch Club in your church. Our church also participates in it. We have only been attending for 9 months so it was my third graders first experience with it. He loved it! We were very impressed with it. I am also proud to say that my little guy won the “Super Sailor Award”!!!
OH, I just LOVE that. Such a dear treasure to share with Boodworm.
I have loved Ms. Bjorn’s books since I was a little girl. But I have always hit a brick wall trying to find anything about here. Even the internet is not helping me!!! Do you know where I might be able to read an actual biography of hers? I just love her!
Please email me if you can…
Thanks!
