Crystal is searching for Frugal Friday home decorating ideas, and mine involves candles. If you read this post, you know that I love scented candles!
I recently started using a candle warmer to burn my jar candles. Candle warmers can be very inexpensive. I picked mine up for less than $5. To us a candle warmer, simply place a jar candle on the warmer, plug in the warmer, and turn it on. A candle warmer ensure that the whole candle is used because there is no burning through the center of the candle, which is what usually happens when burning a candle with a flame. So, I get to enjoy the entire candle because all of the wax is used. This saves money and avoids wasting candle wax.
Here are some other reasons I like using a candle warmer:
~ There is no flame. I don’t have to worry about one of my curious, creative children burning themselves (or burning down the house!).
If I forget to unplug the warmer before going to bed or leaving the house, I don’t have to worry about a fire starting.
~ There is no soot, which can interfere with the scent and leave unsightly marks on the jar, walls, or ceiling.
I think that a candle’s flame adds a lot to a room’s ambiance, so I do like to burn them the “traditional” way, too. I can always use my candle warmer to burn the wax at the bottom of the jar when the wick will no longer do the job. 🙂
I have several of these candle warmers that I use. I love them!!! I also set small decorative glass bowls with liquid potpourri on them too. Those work great as well.
Sis. Julie,
I haven’t used liquid potpourri on a warmer yet. Thanks for the tip!
I really like these too. I do worry that the glass might break or something because it sure does get hot! But I agree it’s less scary than having a flame.
The other thing I noticed is the wick will fall down inside so I have certain candles I save for burning and certain ones I use for the burner. The ones I use for the burner last a LONG time!
Great tip! (o:
I bet they’re also good for people with smoke allergies. I had a Home Interior party one time and had all my HI candles burning when my guests arrived. I had to take them to the bedroom and blow them out because one of my guests had bloodshot watering eyes and began coughing. I felt so bad!! I only had about four burning. But I just felt so bad for her.

I did not know about these!!! I LOVE candles, but quit burning them last spring when we repainted. I just could not bear the thought of smoke stains on the new paint. I do use the Yankee Candle plug ins, and LOVE them, for scent; but I have quite a stash of jar candles in my favorite scents (Home Sweet Home and Fresh Cut Roses). I will be looking for a couple of these candle warmers!! Thanks for sharing!
