Today was a special day for me and Shay (heretofore known as Bookworm). She has been saving up her money so that we could go on a mommy/daughter date. Isn’t she sweet? I enjoy spending one-on-one time with my children, but my first-born is the child that craves time with me the most. She has been looking forward to to our “date” for quite some time.
After we finished school and prepared lunch for the rest of the family, Mr. C came home early so that Shay and I could head out for a fun afternoon. Shay got to choose where we were going to have lunch since it was her treat. She chose a restaurant in a nearby town. We had a very nice lunch together. Shay ordered a cheeseburger and fries, and I ordered a yummy chicken dish. We shared a brownie and ice cream for dessert.
After lunch we visited a few stores and just did some browsing. We went to the Dollar Tree and found some cute Valentine decorations. There’s a small mall in the town we were in, so we decided to go to one of the department stores there since I had a $10 off coupon. We were able to find two skirts and two shirts for Shay (these are going to be saved for her birthday that’s just 2 weeks away), and I found a designer handbag on clearance. Our total for all these goodies was under $30!!! We were really bargain-shopping! Our last stop before heading home was the grocery store. The store was packed, but expected no less on a Friday evening. When we got home we fixed pizza for everyone, but we were too stuffed from our late lunch to have any!
I’m so thankful that Shay and I were able to share a special time together this afternoon. She is growing up so fast, and I want to be able to make wonderful memories with her that we will always look back and smile upon. She is a real treasure!
Aww… what precious times.
I love spending one-on-one time with my children, too. It’s so important at all ages. Sometimes as children get older we ‘forget’ they still need that special time.
Ally and I love going out on ‘dates’ (and she loves going on ‘dates’ with her daddy). Those are such wonderful memories she (and we) will always treasure.
Sounds like y’all found some wonderful bargains and had a great time!

Your Shay sounds sweet and thoughtful. What great memories.
I commented on your blog a few days ago (wierd things about you) and you asked for a link. I have been trying hard to get the blogger site up and running but had some trouble. For some reason I think I finallly have it so I posted a couple of things, including my wierd things (which I called odd because that was what was stuck in my head).
So you should be linked (knittyinthesouth)
I have enjoyed reading your blog and even some that are linked to yours. I have been blogging for a few months on the xanga site, but I think I like this one better. So please check in once in awhile. Thanks. becky

What a lovely day you had with your daughter!! That’s the stuff that memories are made of. Great bargain shopping, too. woo hoo!
Hi Mrs. C,
Thank you for visiting me! I have been a fan of your site for a while now and enjoy it very much! I am still in the learning phase.
🙂 We have 3 daughters and have done the Daddy/Daughter dates for a long time. We have girl’s days when Daddy has to travel that includes doing hair, makeup tips, sort of our own “spa” days. Love making memories. Sounds like you had a wonderful time together!
Oh, that’s so sweet. I love times like that with my children. And it’s important to them and for them to spend that time with us.
Do I answer you here, or on my site? I just don’t know how this works yet.
Yes, I teach at a Christian school. I have been there 8 years, ever since my youngest was in my 3rd grade class. I am retiring in May. Not because I am too old, but because I am too tired of trying to do it all. I love my “family” at school dearly. But I just can’t do the 100% job at school and at home. So I am giving up the school so I can be at home. My budget will suffer a bit, but it has never been about the money. It is about ministry. And heart. And giving my life away. I am just tired of not having any life left by 4:00 🙂 So looking forward to a new chapter in life.

Sounds like you are ready for a well-deserved rest. I’m sure you’ll have mixed feelings as the time draws near.
