The Front Porch
Lately I’ve really been looking forward to Mondays. There’s something refreshing about being in the Lord’s house on Sunday and getting a burst of energy to help start the new week. Today I hopped out of the bed as soon as the alarm clock went off and spent some extra time reading my Bible and talking to the Lord. That gets me going much better than a cup of coffee ever could!
Before breakfast I stepped just outside the front door to assess the front porch and entry way to our home. Not a pretty site! The white rocking chairs on the front porch have gone from looking shabby chic to just plain shabby!! Some deep cleaning was definitely in order. With cooler temperatures and a beautiful sunrise this morning, I knew that today was the day.
I started by completely clearing off the front porch. I hauled all of the furniture down the steps to the front yard. Everything got a good sweeping. Next, out came the water hose and a bucket of sudsy water. I scrubbed every inch of those chairs from top to bottom. Mickey Mouse was my big helper. He dutifully watered the grass (and himself) while I washed down the chairs. He would rinse each chair while I started on the next one.
While I had everything off of the porch, I went ahead and washed down the porch walls and the window. It was then that I noticed how filthy the white porch railing was. Once again I grabbed the bucket of suds and applied some elbow grease to the railing.
The only thing left to clean was the floor. The water hose made quick work of that.
By the time I finished washing down the front steps, the rocking chairs had finished drying in the sun and were ready to be taken back up the steps. I sure did enjoy resting for a few minutes in a nice, clean rocker.
Tackling the front porch chores took a bit longer than I had planned, but I didn’t mind because it felt wonderful to be able to enjoy rocking on the front porch without worrying about getting all dirty. I didn’t get all of my regular Monday chores completed, but next week will be here before I know it, and I can catch up then.
We’re headed off to our first night of Vacation Bible School. This week will be busy and fun! I have a new book I’m hoping to start reading, too. We’ll see if I can squeeze in a few chapters before bedtime. 🙂
Everything looks great. I love porches but they do get dirty easy…but they are so worth it.
Have a blessed week.
That is a beautiful porch! And so sparkly clean. I’d be heading out there to drink my coffee and read my bible every morning.
I’d do that here if it weren’t for the fact that it is 80 humid degrees by 8:00 in the morning. It is not so refreshing. Not this time of year.
I think we need more front porches in this world. Our porch for sitting is in the back, as are most. Front porches give us a better connection to our neighborhoods.

I agree–they’re worth the work!
I know what you mean up the humidity where you live. You can’t even step outside to get the morning paper without needing a shower, lol!
Our porch is at a second-story level, so we have a beautiful view. 🙂
What a blessing to have such a porch. Like all blessings, they need our tender care!
Looks very inviting. I’m on my way over now. We’ll share a moon pie and RC. 😉
How inviting your porch looks! It sure feels great to have a chore completed and you can see the fruits of your labor!
Thank you for your sweet comments on our anniversary. We sure thought we were all grown up, but the pictures show otherwise! LOL.
Enjoy Bible School! I have fond memories of those years!

Yes, I agree with Mrs B — WOW! It looks so cozy, clean, and comfortable! 🙂 I hope you had an ice-cold glass of lemonade to refresh you and MM after all your hard work.
